In a bid to explore how digital and physical realities can collide, the official presenting partner of New York Fashion Week Afterpay is bringing NFTs to the runway this September.
Since non-fungible tokens are becoming a popular tool for fashion brands to gain momentum and engage with their most loyal consumers, the “Buy Now Pay Later” service provider has partnered with five different coveted designers to offer limited edition NFTs that are more than just digital collectables. By going beyond digital garments and collectable tokens, Afterpay has made a smart move ahead of other Web3 proponents.
ALTU by Joseph Altuzarra, AnOnlyChild, Jonathan Simkhai, Kim Shui, and The Blonds have designed a bespoke phygital collectable inspired by their SS23 collections that grant holders exclusive benefits and immersive IRL experiences. Aiming to bring the often inaccessible world of fashion week closer to the public, each NFT retails for $100 USD and the payment can be split into four interest-free instalments with Afterpay.
The benefits that come with the NYFW NFTs keys include limited edition products, such as a custom-designed hoodie by Kim Shui, catwalk and afterparty invites, private shopping experiences, premiere art museums memberships and more. The Afterpay’s First-Ever NFT holders will also unlock a one-year membership to TIDAL HiFi Plus 6 Month Free Trial, a friends-only NYFW Instagram group and access to Spring Studios’ The Talks. All the sales proceeds will go to Free Arts NYC.
