The NFT Allows Collectors to Purchase A Redemption Token Giving Access to a Physical Print of The Photograph With A Digital Certificate Of Authenticity Verified on the Blockchain

September 13, 2022 – Green Web3 platform OneOf announced a new collection with David Bowie as part of their partnership with Globe Entertainment and Media (Globe), custodians of the world’s most famous archives including Globe Photo Agency, Movie Star News and the Frank Worth Archive. The two companies are bringing the iconic photograph of rock legend David Bowie performing on his Ziggy Stardust tour in Santa Monica in 1972 to Web3 on the 50-year anniversary of the concert.
The Legends of Rock: David Bowie—Stardust in Santa Monica collection will feature 130 limited prints of a photograph of David Bowie, taken by photographer Jeffrey Mayer during Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust Tour stop at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 20, 1972—the day David Bowie would change music forever. It was captured during a rare moment, when David Bowie played harmonica on “Jean Genie.”
🎸 Legends of Rock: Stardust in Santa Monica Collection goes LIVE soon! 3 lucky collectors will receive a physical large-format vintage David Bowie slide as an exclusive vault item! https://t.co/Iq4E9VPzpP ⚡️ pic.twitter.com/GHhwCvaa4C
Each print is numbered and signed by Mayer, and will come with a secure Digital Certificate of Authenticity inspired by Chris Vranian, America’s foremost Rock and Roll Photography curator. This NFCOA (Non-Fungible Certificate of Authenticity) confirms ownership of the limited-edition signed Jeffrey Mayer print on the blockchain and will come with an incredible utility for fans – three randomly selected collectors will also receive a large-format vintage David Bowie slide in an acrylic display frame. A true music collector’s dream.
The limited 130 print NFTs will come with a Redemption Token. The Redemption Token serves as a trading token for a physical print of the photograph and its accompanying non-fungible certificate of authenticity (NFCOA). Each Redemption Token NFT edition number is directly tied to the physical print edition number. This redemption token can be used to resell this NFT on the OneOf Marketplace.
Collectors can decide to redeem their Redemption Token NFT for a physical print and the NFCOA at any time by logging onto OneOf and going into their vault. Once redeemed, US-based collectors will be mailed the limited-edition fine art physical print of David Bowie with the same Redemption Token NFT edition number. The NFT holder will also be airdropped the NFCOA for the physical print, replacing the Redemption Token NFT in their OneOf account.
“I’m excited to continue our partnership with OneOf and give collectors a chance to own a piece of history both digitally and physically,” says Klaus MoellerCEO of Globe Entertainment and Media. “This unique NFT collection recreates Jeffrey Mayer’s iconic photograph in a new and exciting way.”
“I’m excited to share one of Bowie’s most iconic photographs with the world in a new way using Web3,” says Thomas FissOneOf Vice President of Music NFTs. “Implementing the Redemption Token feature blends the worlds of art and tech seamlessly.”
In August, OneOf kicked off their Globe partnership with Legends of Rock: Summer of Love at the Monterey Pop Festival. The collection celebrated Jill Gibson’s icon Monterey Pop Festival photographs of rock icons including Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Ravi Shankar. For the first time ever, Jill published her famous Jimi Hendrix Rolling Stone cover shot from the festival.
Jeffrey Mayer has a 50+ year career documenting pop culture and shaping how fans saw their rock and roll icons. After seeing The Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965, Jeffrey got “the bug” and mastered the art of photography and storytelling through his lens. Mayer’s unique photo archive is amongst the most comprehensive in the music industry and here-to-date known only to music industry insiders. Many photos in Jeffrey’s collection have never been printed or been seen since they graced the pages of rock ‘n’ roll’s fabled magazine era, decades ago.
Jeffrey’s images have appeared in all major music magazines and on albums including Led Zeppelin’s “How The West Was Won”, Pat Benatar “Get Nervous”, and Ten Years After’s “Live” to name a few. His images can be found in the now legendary official book, LED ZEPPELIN by Led Zeppelin from Reel Art Press, The Grateful Dead book, “Eyes Of The World”, and countless music videos and press materials.
Globe Entertainment & Media Corporation (Globe) is the owner of one of the most iconic photographic archives in the world. With close to 25 million original negatives, transparencies and vintage prints, the collection includes many of the most well-known images of Pop Culture, Movies, Sports, Music and Historic Events – as well as many that have never been seen by the public.
