Football madness has swept the globe this November as the FIFA World Cup is currently underway in Qatar! FIFA themselves have utilized the power of Web3 with their fairly questionable games released off of the back of their departure with EA Sports earlier this year.
However it seems some of the world’s top players have jumped in on Web3 fun as NFT collections have been released under their names. Coming from both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, two of the biggest names in Football/Soccer.
Let’s look deeper into these NFT collections and what they exactly are.

Lionel Messi has also jumped onto the NFT marketplace with his very own collection. Brought to us by the Ethernity Blockchain, this gives users a look into the promising “Messiverse” metaverse experience!
The collection has been designed by Australian designer Bosslogic, who has previously worked with the world renowned Avengers franchise. It is made up of 3 different NFTs, each having a unique name assigned to them.
“The collection is a set of pieces outlining achievements, moments, team love, and future accomplishments focusing mainly on the man himself. Thanks to Ethernity, the dream of working with one of my favorite people in the world and one of the GOATs of our time, Messi, I have had the honour and privilege to create a set of pieces for the icon; to go down in history as his first singular NFT drop!” – Bosslogic
This is the first part to the collection. It features Lionel Messi as a cyborg like figure as he is metaphorically a cyborg when on the pitch. Having netted a staggering 750 goals for both F.C Barcelona and his home country Argentina, it comes as no surprise that he has been depicted in this way by Bosslogic.
This second collectible is a play on words for the Greek God, Atlas. He is depicted to be a strong leader who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. A similar notion to how Messi can be considered to lead both club and country to victory against their opponents.
The details on this specific NFT are beautiful as the realism of textures and colors are brought out by Bosslogic’s art.
The third part to this Messi NFT collection sees him placed onto a chess board design, surrounded by chess pieces prominent within the game. Here Messi is seen to be the King piece, the one that decides who wins or loses the game.
Messi is holding the Ballon d’Or trophie, an award he has one a total of 6 times. Proving that he is a king of the game as it is the most coveted award in soccer/football.
This NFT collection is currently available via the Ethernity marketplace on their website. Whilst this collection has been out for a while, the secondary market is definitely alive for this project.
It is not as accessible as the Ronaldo collection, however if you are a fan of Lionel Messi this NFT collection is definitely worth checking out!
You are in luck though if you are not feeling up for the secondary market, as Messi has another collection set to release in December via Ethernity! This collection has been titled “The Time Machine Collection”. Entries for this collection are currently open via the Ethernity website!
