International Chauffeur Service Webus Plans $300M Raise for XRP Strategic Reserve
Webus International, a Chinese provider of customizable car and touring services, announced a significant strategic move to integrate Ripple’s XRP into its global operations. The company plans to raise up to $300 million through non-equity financing to establish a substantial XRP reserve. This reserve will serve as the backbone of a new payment network designed to streamline international transactions for its global chauffeur services.
This initiative represents a substantial commitment to XRP’s cross-border payment capabilities. By leveraging XRP’s speed and efficiency, Webus aims to reduce transaction costs and processing times associated with international payments for its extensive network of drivers and clients. The company emphasizes the importance of preserving its equity value, opting for non-equity financing methods such as loans, credit lines, and shareholder guarantees. This approach avoids diluting ownership through the issuance of new shares.
The decision to build an XRP reserve follows a similar move by Saudi Arabia-based VivoPower International, which announced plans to create a $121 million XRP treasury. This trend suggests a growing acceptance and adoption of XRP among businesses seeking innovative solutions for international payments. Webus’s commitment underscores the potential of XRP to become a critical component of the global financial infrastructure.
Central to Webus’s strategy is the enhancement of its existing ecosystem. The company plans to integrate XRP into its on-chain booking records, providing greater transparency and efficiency in managing reservations and payments. Furthermore, Webus will incorporate XRP into a new Web3-based loyalty program, offering customers added incentives and rewards for their continued patronage.
In conjunction with this announcement, Webus reaffirmed its partnership with Tongcheng Travel Holdings, a major Chinese online travel agency. The companies will expand their “Wetour x Tongcheng” charter lines, utilizing the XRP Ledger to facilitate seamless cross-border payments for rides and driver compensation. While the financing plan remains non-binding and subject to final agreements and due diligence, it signals Webus’s strong belief in the transformative potential of XRP within the global travel and transportation sector. The initiative is a bold step towards a more efficient and transparent payment system for international travel services.
