MoonPay Grabs Coveted BitLicense Approval In New York

MoonPay, a prominent cryptocurrency on-ramp and payments platform boasting over 20 million users, has achieved a significant regulatory milestone. The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has granted MoonPay both a BitLicense and a money transmitter license, marking the completion of its U.S. regulatory compliance. This achievement adds to MoonPay’s existing licenses in 46 other U.S. states, along with registrations in the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, Ireland, and Jersey. The company announced this development in a press release on Wednesday.

The BitLicense from the NYDFS is widely considered a gold standard within the cryptocurrency industry, signifying a high level of regulatory scrutiny and compliance. Securing this license is particularly significant given the current regulatory landscape and the efforts of the Trump administration to establish federal cryptocurrency regulations. This makes a strong U.S. presence highly desirable for companies operating in the crypto space.

The NYDFS approval follows MoonPay’s recent establishment of a new headquarters in New York City, now its largest U.S. office. This strategic move further solidifies the company’s commitment to the U.S. market and its active engagement with regulators.

MoonPay co-founder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright expressed the company’s pride in this accomplishment, stating, “As a U.S.-founded company with a headquarters in New York City, we’re immensely proud of this milestone and look forward to our continued work with regulators nationwide to make crypto accessible to everyone.” This statement highlights MoonPay’s dedication to expanding cryptocurrency accessibility while maintaining a strong commitment to regulatory compliance.

The acquisition of both licenses underscores MoonPay’s robust regulatory framework and positions the company for continued growth and expansion within the U.S. and globally. It serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to operating within established regulatory guidelines while continuing to provide accessible and user-friendly cryptocurrency services to its large and growing user base. The combination of comprehensive licensing and a strengthened U.S. presence indicates a positive outlook for MoonPay’s future.
