Guggenheim Treasury Services to Issue Digital Commercial Paper on the XRP Ledger
Guggenheim Treasury Services, a leading commercial paper platform manager, has launched its Digital Commercial Paper (DCP) on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This move marks a significant step towards mainstream adoption of blockchain technology in institutional finance.
DCP, a fixed-income asset secured by U.S. Treasuries and boasting a Prime-1 rating from Moody’s, offers a compelling alternative for treasury management. Already having processed over $280 million in issuance since its September 2024 launch, DCP leverages the XRPL’s speed, low costs, and 24/7 accessibility to streamline issuance, transactions, and integration into global systems.
The platform facilitates the issuance of DCP with custom maturities of up to 397 days. Crucially, each DCP is fully backed by maturity-matched U.S. Treasury securities, mitigating risk and enhancing investor confidence. The issuance process is managed through Great Bridge Capital Company, a bankruptcy-remote special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by Guggenheim Treasury Services to ensure robust investor protections.
This innovative approach offers institutional clients a highly efficient solution for managing treasury assets, seamlessly integrating with existing cross-border payment flows. The XRPL’s capabilities are ideally suited to DCP’s needs, providing a secure and efficient environment for this type of high-value transaction.
This launch is not merely an experiment; it represents a clear shift towards widespread adoption of blockchain in the financial sector. Industry leaders such as Markus Infanger, Senior Vice President of RippleX, highlight this transformation, emphasizing the growing institutional demand for scalable blockchain solutions in regulated markets. Giacinto Cosenza, CEO at Zeconomy (the platform facilitating DCP on XRPL), similarly underscores the significance of this partnership, merging institutional strength with Ripple’s enterprise focus.
Ripple’s investment in DCP aligns with its broader strategy to onboard real-world assets onto the XRPL. This commitment builds upon previous investments in tokenized U.S. Treasuries, solidifying its position in the evolving landscape of digital finance. DCP is exclusively available to Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) and Qualified Purchasers (QPs) as defined by relevant securities laws.
