Bitcoin at $200K by Year-End is Now Firmly in Play, Analyst Says After Muted U.S. Inflation Data
Bitcoin’s price could surge to $200,000 by year-end, according to Matt Mena, crypto research strategist at 21Shares, following Wednesday’s softer-than-expected U.S. inflation data. This unexpectedly low inflation rate, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), acts as a bullish catalyst, potentially accelerating Bitcoin’s price growth.
The CPI rose 0.1% in May, below the anticipated 0.2% increase, indicating cooling inflation. This is particularly noteworthy given that the CPI for durable goods even decreased by 0.1% month-to-month. The annualized CPI increase stands at 2.4%, with core inflation at 2.8%. This trend reinforces the possibility of future policy easing by the Federal Reserve.
Traders are now pricing in approximately two 25 basis point rate cuts this year in response to the cooling inflation, with a rate cut in October fully priced in and a high probability for September. Mena highlights that this positive macroeconomic shift complements existing bullish factors, including increased institutional adoption of Bitcoin and the upcoming regulation of stablecoins.
Mena anticipates accelerated Bitcoin inflows driven by renewed institutional confidence, greater activity from Bitcoin treasuries, and the ongoing development of state-level Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) programs. These factors, combined with potential ETF inflows, are expected to further solidify Bitcoin’s position in global investment portfolios.
21Shares, a leading issuer of crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs), believes that Bitcoin is well-positioned to benefit from this improved macroeconomic clarity. Mena suggests that if Bitcoin decisively breaks through the $105,000-$110,000 resistance level, a rapid increase to $120,000 could occur, potentially leading to the $138,500 target by summer’s end. The unexpectedly positive CPI report could even propel Bitcoin to the ambitious $200,000 mark by year’s end. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at approximately $108,440.
