Katana Mainnet Goes Live as Pre-Deposits Hit $232M
Katana, a self-described “DeFi-first” layer-2 blockchain, has launched its mainnet following a surge in pre-deposits totaling $232 million. This significant influx occurred within less than a month of Katana’s public unveiling, with DefiLlama data showcasing a dramatic increase in deposits from $75 million to $2320 million between June 1st and 30th, 2025.
This rapid growth is attributed to Katana’s innovative approach to addressing a critical challenge in the DeFi ecosystem: liquidity. Insufficient liquidity often results in issues such as slippage, inefficient pricing, and unsustainable yields. Katana tackles this problem through two key mechanisms:
-
VaultBridge: This product facilitates yield generation on assets deposited on Ethereum, optimizing returns for users.
-
Chain-Owned Liquidity (CoL): This allows Katana to retain 100% of net sequencer fees, transforming them into liquidity reserves. This approach ensures a consistent and robust liquidity pool, directly benefitting users and the platform’s stability.
Early depositors will receive randomized reward NFTs known as Krates, along with a share of 70 million KAT tokens, Katana’s native token. Yield farming opportunities will further incentivize participation, with additional KAT rewards available for staking on platforms like Morpho and Sushi.
Katana’s blockchain-agnostic design sets it apart. While built on Ethereum, its collaboration with Jito, a liquid staking protocol, extends yield generation opportunities to other blockchains such as Solana. This broadens the reach and utility of the Katana platform, attracting a diverse user base and maximizing its overall impact on the DeFi landscape.
Marc Boiron, co-contributor of Katana, stated in a press release that Katana “represents the endgame for how blockchains create value in DeFi.” This ambitious claim reflects the project’s significant potential to reshape the DeFi landscape by directly tackling liquidity challenges, thereby promoting greater efficiency, stability, and accessibility within the decentralized finance sector. The launch coincides with yield farming incentives, further amplifying Katana’s appeal to yield farmers and DeFi enthusiasts.
