BTC’s 200-Week Average Rises To $50K To Suggest Long-Term Market Strength

Bitcoin’s 200-Week Simple Moving Average (200WMA), a key long-term indicator, is nearing a significant threshold. Currently at approximately $49,223 (according to Glassnode data), it’s approaching the $50,000 mark. This metric stands out for its consistent upward trajectory throughout Bitcoin’s history, making it a reliable gauge of long-term price trends. Historically, the 200WMA has acted as a robust support level.

During past bear markets, the price found support near the 200WMA. In the 2015 bear market, this support was around $200; in 2018, it held above $3,000. Even during the sharp COVID-19 induced crash of March 2020, the price briefly dipped below the 200WMA to approximately $5,300 before falling further to $3,000. However, the period from June 2022 to October 2023 presented a notable exception. Bitcoin remained below the 200WMA (around $25,000) for fifteen months, highlighting a prolonged bear market.

Contrasting with the 200WMA’s long-term perspective, the 200-Day Simple Moving Average (200DMA), a shorter-term indicator often used to identify bull and bear market transitions, currently sits at $96,246. This significantly higher value suggests Bitcoin is currently in a bull market. While the price did briefly fall below the 200DMA between February and April, it rebounded and remained above it even during the recent correction to $98,000 amidst geopolitical tensions. The 200DMA’s historical accuracy in signaling market shifts further strengthens its bullish implication.

The current market environment is also conducive to Bitcoin’s potential for growth. The Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 are reaching new all-time highs, a positive correlation that could propel Bitcoin to achieve new all-time highs as well. The convergence of the strong support indicated by the 200WMA nearing $50,000 and the bullish signal from the 200DMA at $96,246 paints a picture of sustained upward momentum, creating a compelling case for a continued Bitcoin bull run. The approaching $50,000 level on the 200WMA will serve as a crucial test for this upward trajectory.
