Securitize, Redstone Pilot ‘Trusted Single Source Oracle’ to Secure Tokenized Fund NAVs

Securitize and RedStone have jointly released a whitepaper detailing the Trusted Single Source Oracle (TSSO), a novel solution for securely verifying Net Asset Value (NAV) data on-chain for tokenized private funds. This addresses a critical challenge in DeFi: ensuring the authenticity and integrity of NAV updates originating from a single, trusted source – the fund administrator.

Unlike traditional crypto markets that utilize multiple price feeds for redundancy, private funds rely on a single NAV calculation. This single point of trust presents a vulnerability. TSSO mitigates this risk by creating a cryptographically linked chain of NAV updates. Each update incorporates a digital signature, timestamp, reference to the preceding record, and a hash, ensuring data immutability and preventing tampering.

The system employs a dual-key architecture: a cold-stored root key for significant updates and a chain key for minor, frequent adjustments within defined thresholds. This balances robust security with the practical need for regular NAV refreshes without constant manual intervention.

Jakub Wojciechowski, RedStone’s founder, explained the necessity of this enhanced authentication process, emphasizing the need to guarantee data integrity and reliance on a single, verifiable source. Securitize is leading the product development, essentially creating an internal blockchain for price updates, ensuring cryptographic linkage between successive updates. This guarantees the authenticity of data originating from the source.

Jorge Serna, Securitize’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, highlighted the natural synergy between this solution and Securitize’s existing operations, particularly in managing tokenized treasury and credit funds. Securitize is already piloting TSSO with clients and aims for broader availability soon.

The TSSO framework represents a significant step towards bridging the trust gap between traditional finance and DeFi, particularly in the burgeoning tokenized fund market. Its adoption could significantly facilitate the integration of tokenized funds with on-chain tools, driving further growth in this sector. The initiative underscores the increasing focus on building institutional-grade infrastructure for DeFi.
