Litecoin Slides as ETF Optimism Battles Wider Market Slowdown

Litecoin (LTC) exhibited sideways trading over the past 24 hours, following a descent from its two-week high exceeding $88. The price fluctuated between $85 and $87, indicating a struggle between buyers seeking dips and sellers viewing $87 as resistance. Technical analysis suggests a potential “golden cross” – where the 50-day moving average surpasses the 200-day moving average – a pattern often preceding extended rallies. However, significant upward momentum is contingent on breaking through the $87 barrier.

The broader cryptocurrency market, as reflected in the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) index, experienced a minor 0.25% decline in the last 24 hours. Despite the recent sideways movement, Litecoin’s future prospects appear positive. Bloomberg analysts predict a 95% likelihood of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approving spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for XRP, Solana, and Litecoin by year-end. Polymarket reflects similar optimism, placing the probability at 86%. Such approval would provide mainstream investors convenient access to LTC through brokerage accounts, potentially stimulating increased demand.

A detailed technical analysis reveals that Litecoin’s price oscillated within a $2.09 range (2.46%) over the 24-hour period, testing both support and resistance levels. Strong selling pressure materialized around $86.65 to $87.10, evidenced by high-volume selling. Conversely, buyers consistently defended the $85.02 to $85.23 range, acting as a price floor during midday trading on July 1st.

While the overall 24-hour chart displays a bearish trend characterized by lower highs, shorter-term indicators suggest emerging bullish sentiment. A modest recovery from $85.22 to $85.59 (0.43%) was observed, fueled by a surge in buying volume exceeding 5,500 tokens per minute. This facilitated a breakthrough above minor resistance at $85.50. Additional support emerged between $85.03 and $85.18 during the same period. This, coupled with a short-term ascending channel exhibiting higher lows, suggests a potential upward momentum attempt despite broader market caution. The situation remains dynamic, with the $87 level acting as a key resistance point to monitor.
