The Open Platform Becomes First TON Unicorn Following $28.5M Raise
The Open Platform (TOP), a key player in Telegram’s crypto infrastructure, has secured $28.5 million in an extended Series A funding round, catapulting its valuation to $1 billion. This significant investment, led by Ribbit Capital with participation from Pantera Capital, marks TOP as the first unicorn within the TON (The Open Network) ecosystem. The funding round brings TOP’s total capital raised to over $70 million, underscoring the growing investor confidence in Telegram’s blockchain initiatives.
TOP’s focus is on developing crucial infrastructure and user-friendly applications built on TON, Telegram’s official blockchain partner. The company’s ambition is to significantly expand cryptocurrency adoption leveraging Telegram’s vast global user base. This strategic investment will fuel TOP’s expansion into key markets, including the U.S. and Europe. A significant portion of the funds will be allocated to bolstering compliance, enhancing security measures, and refining go-to-market strategies.
TOP’s portfolio already includes a range of products and tools integrated with Telegram. These offerings encompass a user-friendly Telegram-integrated wallet, secure non-custodial storage solutions, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), vibrant NFT marketplaces, and engaging blockchain-based games, such as the popular tap-to-earn title Notcoin.
Andrew Rogozov, CEO and founder of TOP, has outlined an ambitious goal: to onboard one billion users into the cryptocurrency space. This ambitious target leverages Telegram’s massive reach and the scalability of the TON blockchain. This substantial investment follows a surge of institutional interest in TON. Earlier this year, the TON Foundation announced a significant investment of $400 million in toncoin (TON), the native token of the TON blockchain, from prominent venture capital firms including Sequoia Capital and Benchmark. This influx of capital and the emergence of TOP as a billion-dollar company solidify TON’s position as a major player in the blockchain industry. The combined efforts signal a concerted push to make cryptocurrency more accessible and user-friendly on a global scale.
