Ethereum Touted as ‘Foundational Layer for Global Finance’ by Firm With $500M ETH Bet

SharpLink Gaming, Inc. (SBET), a Minneapolis-based online performance marketing company specializing in sports betting and iGaming, has become the first publicly listed company to adopt Ether (ETH) as its primary treasury reserve asset. This strategic move, announced on July 4th, 2025, involves accumulating, staking, and leveraging ETH to enhance long-term shareholder value. SharpLink’s strategy goes beyond mere ETH holding; it actively deploys the asset through staking, restaking, and Ethereum-based yield strategies, capitalizing on ETH’s inherent properties: productivity via staking rewards, composability within DeFi protocols, scarcity, security, and alignment with future internet infrastructure.

This significant shift began with a $425 million private placement in May, led by Consensys, which also saw Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin join SharpLink’s board as Chairman. Between late May and mid-June, SharpLink acquired approximately 176,271 ETH for roughly $463 million, followed by an additional 12,207 ETH purchase in mid-June. By June 24th, 100% of SharpLink’s 188,478 ETH holdings were deployed in staking solutions, generating staking rewards exceeding 220 ETH by July 1st. The company’s treasury further expanded to 198,478 ETH by that date.

Lubin highlights this strategy as embodying technological progress and institutional trust, positioning SharpLink to lead in digital commerce evolution. CEO Rob Phythian emphasizes the upcoming Nasdaq closing bell ceremony on July 7th as a symbol of this new chapter, showcasing the coexistence of digital assets with public market discipline and corporate governance. SharpLink’s innovative approach uniquely positions the company at the intersection of sports betting, blockchain technology, and decentralized finance, offering investors regulated and transparent exposure to Ethereum’s growth potential while furthering SharpLink’s mission to innovate the iGaming industry. Current ETH prices hover around $2,505, with recent technical analysis showing a bullish trend.
