Ether, AI Coins Steal Bitcoin’s Spotlight: Crypto Daybook Americas

Bitcoin’s recent surge to record highs on multiple exchanges has captured significant attention, but the AI-related cryptocurrency sector shouldn’t be overlooked. Several AI-associated tokens, including TAO, ICP, RENDER, and FET, experienced gains of up to 8% in 24 hours, exceeding the performance of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. This surge is largely attributed to Nvidia’s record-breaking market valuation of $4 trillion, highlighting the immense influence of the AI sector on market sentiment. Bloomberg Surveillance co-host Lisa Abramowicz noted that the success of Nvidia and other US tech giants underscores the AI trade’s ability to overshadow short-term economic fluctuations.

Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, also outperformed Bitcoin, driven by record trading volumes in BlackRock’s spot ether ETF and fueled by Fidelity’s report emphasizing Ethereum’s dominance in developer activity, total value locked (TVL), and stablecoin usage. This report highlighted ether’s dual role as both a medium of exchange and a store of value, a narrative that has long benefited Bitcoin.

Other notable market movements include PUMP, the Pump.fun token, trading 40% above its upcoming ICO price, with FART, VIRTUAL, and PENGU also showing double-digit gains. While SHIB showed potential to outperform Bitcoin, it remains weak against Dogecoin. However, macroeconomic factors, including a reignited trade war, a hawkish Federal Reserve, and tightening liquidity, suggest increased volatility is likely.

Polygon’s Heimdall hard fork activation on July 10th promises faster transaction finality and improved user experience. A Singapore High Court hearing on WazirX’s restructuring on July 14th is another significant event, following a $234 million hack. Furthermore, upcoming events include the Alchemist staking update, Lynq’s digital asset settlement network launch, and Senate and House hearings on digital commodity oversight. These events, along with scheduled token unlocks and launches, including Pump.fun’s ICO on July 12th, promise continued market activity. Derivatives markets show mixed signals, with some tokens exhibiting high funding rates indicative of strong long positions. Meanwhile, macroeconomic factors and geopolitical events contribute to the overall market uncertainty.
