BigONE, a cryptocurrency exchange, suffered a significant security breach on July 16, 2025, resulting in the theft of approximately $27 million worth of digital assets. The exchange attributed the loss to a third-party attack exploiting a hot wallet vulnerability. BigONE swiftly identified and contained the breach, assuring users that their private keys remain secure and that no further losses are anticipated.

The stolen assets encompassed a diverse range of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Tether (USDT), Dogecoin (DOGE), Solana (SOL), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), XinFin Network (XIN), Celer Network (CELR), Uniswap (UNI), and LEO. Specific quantities stolen include 120 BTC, 350 ETH, 9.5 billion SHIB, 7.1 million USDT, 538,000 DOGE, 1,800 SOL, 1 WBTC, 20,730 XIN, 15.7 million CELR, 25,487 UNI, and 16,071 LEO.

BigONE has pledged full reimbursement to all affected users, utilizing a combination of internal reserves and external borrowing to ensure complete restitution. The exchange is actively collaborating with blockchain security firm SlowMist to trace the stolen funds across multiple networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, Solana, and BNB Chain.

While deposits and trading are expected to resume shortly after the incident, withdrawals will remain temporarily suspended to allow for the implementation of enhanced security measures. BigONE emphasized its commitment to transparency, promising to keep users updated on the investigation’s progress and resolution.

This incident adds to the growing number of significant exchange hacks in 2025, contributing to the year’s total cryptocurrency exploit losses exceeding $2.1 billion. The exchange’s swift response and commitment to user compensation demonstrate a proactive approach to mitigating the impact of this security breach. However, the incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the cryptocurrency industry in safeguarding user assets.
