SpaceX Wallet Springs to Life With $153M Bitcoin Transfer, First Move Since 2022
SpaceX, Elon Musk’s aerospace manufacturer, recently executed a significant Bitcoin transaction, moving over $150 million worth of BTC after a three-year period of inactivity on the blockchain. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence tracked the transfer of 1,308 Bitcoin from a wallet identified as belonging to SpaceX. This marks the first outbound transfer since June 10, 2020, when a much larger sum of 3,505 BTC (valued at $102 million then) was sent to Coinbase.
The recent transaction originated from address 15oKQ7…i7Jf1G and concluded in a previously inactive receiving wallet, bc1q8k…phartf. The destination wallet remains unlabeled, and subsequent movements of the Bitcoin haven’t been detected. This lack of traceable activity following the transfer raises questions about the intended purpose. Speculation ranges from a potential sale to internal portfolio adjustments within SpaceX’s treasury.
According to Arkham’s data, SpaceX still retains a substantial Bitcoin holding of 6,977 BTC, currently estimated at approximately $815 million. This significant amount positions SpaceX among the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders, rivaling established companies like MicroStrategy (MSTR) and Tesla (TSLA), another Musk-owned enterprise.
The timing and scale of this transaction are noteworthy. The considerable sum transferred, combined with the prolonged period of inactivity preceding the move, suggests a deliberate action rather than a random or accidental transfer. The lack of transparency regarding the recipient wallet and the absence of subsequent transactions increases the mystery surrounding the purpose. Whether this represents a strategic shift in SpaceX’s cryptocurrency holdings, a liquidity event, or simply internal reorganization remains unknown. Further analysis and potential disclosures from SpaceX itself may shed more light on the motivations behind this notable Bitcoin movement. The cryptocurrency community is likely to closely monitor any future activity from this address for further insights.
