ETH to $4,000 Journey: Analysts Weigh Whale Purchases Against Correction Risks
Ether’s recent surge towards $4,000 has stalled, encountering resistance and resulting in a price drop exceeding 3%, settling around $3,696. Despite bullish sentiment among some investors, the price action reveals underlying technical vulnerabilities, even as institutional buying intensifies. This pullback follows two weeks of significant gains, sparking debate among analysts regarding the sustainability of the rally without a broader market correction.
Technical indicators are signaling caution. Crypto analytics accounts, such as Front Runners, highlight Ether’s 14-day outperformance of Bitcoin, deeming it unsustainable without consolidation. Concerns about overheated RSI and euphoric sentiment are also voiced. Analysts like Michaël van de Poppe and “Andrew Crypto” warn of a potential “violent correction,” citing a rejection at a key resistance level as a catalyst for a necessary, healthy pullback.
However, bullish sentiment persists. “Crypto Rand’s” earlier prediction of Ether reaching $4,000 remains a point of optimism, supported by on-chain data revealing record-high whale buying activity, as reported by CryptoQuant and confirmed by Crypto Rover. This is further substantiated by SharpLink Gaming’s recent purchase of 79,949 ETH, representing their highest weekly acquisition since initiating their treasury strategy. SharpLink now holds 360,807 ETH, with over $96 million allocated for future purchases.
Despite macro uncertainty, Ether’s price has shown resilience, fueled by growing investor confidence. Analysts, however, suggest a correction might be necessary for the next upward leg. The recent 24-hour period saw a 6.11% drop, from a high of $3,851.59 to a low of $3,623.60, marked by increased trading volume and a decisive breach of key support levels. The final hour of the session on July 22nd witnessed a sharp 1.25% decline, fueled by high-volume liquidations. This suggests a bearish trend, although institutional accumulation and strong on-chain data offer a counterpoint. The current price sits at approximately $3,696.
