EDX Unveils International Crypto Trading Platform With Perpetual Futures

EDX, a U.S.-based institutional cryptocurrency exchange backed by prominent financial firms like Citadel, Fidelity, and Virtu, has expanded its operations globally. The launch of EDX International, based in Singapore, marks a significant step in providing institutional-grade cryptocurrency trading to a wider market.

This new platform offers perpetual futures contracts on 44 cryptocurrency pairs, encompassing major digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP. Initial liquidity is robustly supported by established market makers including Virtu Financial, LTP, and Hidden Road, ensuring a stable and liquid trading environment.

Targeting a global clientele, EDX International specifically excludes U.S.-based clients, focusing its efforts on the Asia-Pacific region. This strategic move is driven by a burgeoning demand from institutional investors, particularly family offices and asset managers, who are increasingly seeking sophisticated access to the cryptocurrency market. Many of these institutions, according to EDX representatives, have been hesitant to fully engage with crypto due to a perceived lack of robust infrastructure and reliable trading platforms.

EDX International directly addresses this gap by providing a secure and efficient trading environment tailored to institutional needs. A key differentiator is the platform’s innovative “smart collateral management” feature, a first for an institutional cryptocurrency exchange. This technology enhances capital efficiency, a crucial consideration for large-scale institutional trading.

Kal Chan, Managing Director of EDX International, highlighted the growing institutional interest in the Asia-Pacific region, emphasizing the exchange’s role in providing the necessary infrastructure to facilitate this growth. He underscored the platform’s commitment to addressing the challenges that have previously hindered broader institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies.

Brett Fairclough, co-president and co-chief operating officer at Virtu Financial, further emphasized the significance of EDX International’s smart collateral management, noting that it establishes a new standard for capital efficiency within the cryptocurrency market. This technological advancement positions EDX International as a leader in providing sophisticated and efficient trading solutions for institutional investors globally. The expansion signifies a growing confidence in the cryptocurrency market’s maturation and its increasing appeal to traditional financial institutions.
