XRP Ledger Tapped for Tokenizing $130M Agribusiness Credit as Brazil’s RWA Push Accelerates
VERT, a Brazilian securitization firm, has launched a groundbreaking blockchain-based platform for private credit on the XRP Ledger. This innovative platform debuted with a significant 700 million Brazilian real (approximately $130 million) issuance of an Agribusiness Receivables Certificate (CRA). This CRA, a crucial instrument in Brazil’s agricultural sector, bundles future cash flows, and its on-chain recording on the XRPL, including its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain, provides unprecedented transparency.
The platform offers real-time tracking of cash flows, loan events, and payments, revolutionizing Brazil’s substantial $200 billion private credit market. Key features include end-to-end lifecycle traceability, compliant metadata storage, and real-time updates for investors and regulators. This system cleverly integrates both on-chain recording and off-chain redundancy, seamlessly connecting Brazil’s established financial infrastructure with the efficiency of blockchain technology.
According to Gabriel Braga, VERT’s Director of Digital Assets, the platform allows for granular recording of operational events, ensuring complete traceability and transparency, approaching real-time updates. This increased transparency directly addresses the growing demand from foreign investors for operational clarity.
The XRPL’s cost-effective and highly efficient consensus mechanism, coupled with its EVM compatibility, enables smart contract automation and enhanced auditability. This technological foundation is a cornerstone of Ripple’s enterprise Real-World Asset (RWA) strategy, focusing on utilizing the XRP Ledger to facilitate tokenized RWAs across global credit markets.
Silvio Pegado, Ripple’s LATAM Managing Director, highlights the significance of this development, emphasizing the crucial role of agribusiness in Brazil’s economy and the substantial progress made in improving credit structuring and tracking within this sector. The VERT platform represents a significant step forward in leveraging blockchain technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility within the Brazilian financial system, particularly within the vital agribusiness sector. The platform’s success promises to attract further investment and innovation in the Brazilian private credit market.
