A Japanese AI Firm Plans to Buy 3,000 Bitcoin Over Next 12 Months

Quantum Solutions, a Japanese AI company, is venturing into Bitcoin investment. Its Hong Kong subsidiary, GPT Pals Studio, will purchase up to $10 million in BTC initially, with a goal of accumulating 3,000 BTC (approximately $354 million) within the next year. This decision, approved on July 23rd, marks a significant shift for the company, which previously held no digital assets.

The driving forces behind this move are the weakening Japanese yen, escalating global financial uncertainty, and a desire for better management of surplus funds. The investment strategy involves a phased approach and utilizes a dedicated account at the Hashkey cryptocurrency exchange. This diversification aims to strengthen the company’s financial foundation, preserve long-term value, and mitigate foreign exchange risks.

This strategic move reflects a broader trend in Japan, where companies are increasingly adopting Bitcoin as a treasury asset. Rising Japanese bond yields are contributing to this trend. Metaplanet, the leading Japanese company holding Bitcoin, boasts a substantial treasury of 16,352 BTC. Other notable Japanese companies, including NEXON, Remixpoint, Convene, SBC Medical Group Holdings, and Anap Holdings, have also added Bitcoin to their balance sheets, collectively holding 19,623 BTC.

While this represents a growing adoption of Bitcoin within Japan’s corporate sector, it remains significantly smaller than the holdings of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, Strategy, which possesses a massive 607,770 BTC. Quantum Solutions’ entry into the Bitcoin market signifies a growing confidence in the cryptocurrency as a viable asset for diversification and risk management, especially amid fluctuating fiat currencies and global economic uncertainty. The company’s investment strategy will be closely watched as it unfolds.
