ETH Treasury Race Heats Up: BitMine Still Ahead Despite SharpLink’s Latest Ether Purchase

SharpLink Gaming’s significant ETH purchase intensifies the competition for dominance among corporate Ethereum treasuries. The company’s recent acquisition of 77,210 ETH, totaling nearly $290 million, increases its holdings to 438,190 ETH, valued at approximately $1.69 billion. This aggressive strategy, initiated on June 2nd, has yielded over 722 ETH in staking rewards and a 70% increase in its ETH concentration ratio since launch. Funding for these purchases came from a successful ATM equity facility, raising over $279 million in net proceeds during the week of July 21st.

However, SharpLink faces stiff competition from BitMine Immersion Technologies, which currently holds 625,000 ETH, worth roughly $2.35 billion. BitMine’s strategy differs slightly; instead of solely focusing on ETH acquisition, they’ve announced a $1 billion open-ended share repurchase program, offering flexibility in their approach to market dominance. Chairman Tom Lee stated this reflects their “expected return calculus” in their pursuit of controlling 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. The rivalry between these two firms is a key factor influencing Ether’s price performance.

Despite macroeconomic uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy decision, ETH remains resilient, trading above $3,800. While no rate changes are anticipated, Jerome Powell’s remarks could cause volatility. Nevertheless, ETH’s price has surged 56% in the past month, driven by strong demand from ETFs and corporate treasuries exceeding new supply.

Technical analysis reveals a 4% trading range for ETH ($3,735.12 to $3,883.90) over the 24-hour period ending July 29th. Significant buying pressure at $3,735.12 triggered a price rebound, pushing ETH to near $3,885. A late surge, breaching key resistance on high volume, established $3,850 as a support level. This consolidation near recent highs precedes the Fed’s decision, setting the stage for potential further price movements. Both companies’ strategies echo those previously employed by Bitcoin-focused firms, highlighting the evolving landscape of corporate cryptocurrency investment.
