ETH Going to $16K in This Cycle? Analyst Explains Why This Could happen
Ether (ETH) traded near $3,800 on Thursday, fueled by bullish price predictions circulating on crypto social media. One analyst, “Edward,” projected a price surge to $16,000, citing long-term technical patterns and sustained institutional investment. Edward highlighted a “clean ascending triangle” formation on the monthly ETH chart, similar to pre-rally conditions in 2020, suggesting a potential breakout above $4,000 could trigger a significant price increase.
This bullish outlook is attributed to three key factors: institutional accumulation, the success of ether ETFs, and Ethereum’s growing role as financial infrastructure. Edward noted decreased volatility despite rising inflows, indicating quiet institutional buying rather than retail-driven mania. Spot ETH ETF flows exceeded $5.3 billion over 18 consecutive trading days since early July. Coupled with capped annual issuance and corporate treasury accumulation, this points to a potential supply squeeze. Furthermore, Ethereum’s function as programmable collateral, facilitated by restaking, Layer 2s, and real-world asset integrations, positions ETH as a core component of a multi-chain financial system.
However, some analysts, such as Michaël van de Poppe, expressed caution. He observed recently decreased volatility, often preceding local price peaks, suggesting potential short-term resistance near $4,000 and a subsequent corrective phase. Despite this, he remains optimistic about a broader altcoin bull cycle over the next 12 to 24 months.
CoinDesk’s technical analysis indicates ETH gained 1.01% on July 31, closing near $3,800. The trading range showed a 4.87% fluctuation, with a V-shaped recovery following a dip to $3,865.69, suggesting institutional buying. Final hour trading showed consolidation between $3,825.22 and $3,842.71. While bullish sentiment is strong, the possibility of short-term resistance and subsequent correction should be considered. The interplay between institutional investment, ETF performance, and Ethereum’s evolving role in the broader financial landscape will likely shape ETH’s price trajectory in the coming months.
