Bitcoin DeFi Project BOB Raises Another $9.5M to Build BTC DeFi Infrastructure
BOB, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol built on Bitcoin, has successfully secured $9.5 million in a recent strategic funding round, bringing its total funding to $21 million. This follows previous funding secured earlier in 2024. The newly acquired capital will be instrumental in realizing BOB’s ambitious goal of establishing itself as the “Gateway to Bitcoin DeFi.” This involves the crucial launch of a mainnet BitVM bridge and the introduction of Bitcoin finality secured through staked BTC, both slated for completion later this year.
This innovative approach will enable users to seamlessly transfer Bitcoin (BTC) from the Bitcoin network and utilize it within various DeFi protocols hosted on the BOB platform. The strategic investment round saw participation from a diverse group of prominent investors, reflecting a strong belief in BOB’s potential. Castle Island Ventures, a lead investor in BOB’s previous $10 million seed round, reaffirmed its commitment by contributing to this latest funding round. They were joined by other established players in the cryptocurrency space, including Ledger, RockawayX, IOSG Ventures, and Bankless Ventures. This round also welcomed several new investors to the BOB ecosystem: Anchorage, Amber Group, and Sats Ventures.
The announcement, delivered via email on Thursday, highlighted the significance of this funding. Co-founder Alexei Zamyatin emphasized the transformative impact of combining BitVM and BTC staking, stating that this approach demonstrates Bitcoin’s capacity to secure a complete DeFi ecosystem. He succinctly summarized the investment opportunity, declaring that “A bet on BOB is a bet on Bitcoin DeFi itself.” The company anticipates launching its mainnet by the end of the year, marking a significant milestone in its development and the broader adoption of Bitcoin within the DeFi landscape. This strategic funding round and the planned technological advancements position BOB for substantial growth and influence within the evolving crypto-finance sector. The involvement of such a diverse and experienced group of investors underscores the considerable confidence in BOB’s innovative approach to bridging the gap between Bitcoin’s security and the dynamism of Ethereum’s DeFi capabilities.
