Tony Stewart and NHRA driver Leah Pruett have partnered with L.A.-based NFT company Orange Comet on a new project that marks the NASCAR HOFer’s first foray into the digital collectibles space. The deal will see animations and images of various cars Stewart drove through his career minted as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, then sold on OpenSea and a new website called TonyStewartNFTs.com. Pruett, who is married to Stewart and drives for his self-titled team, also will be involved with the collection. Stewart indicated that he sees this as the new way for fans to buy physical diecast toys. The first part of the collection will debut on Aug. 23 and include 30 NFTs available for purchase, with the collectibles showing animations of Stewart’s various cars in NASCAR, IndyCar, SRX and grassroots racing. Purchasers also will be sent a real-life autographed firesuit. If the series sells out, one of the 30 buyers will be sent a real-life 2011-edition NASCAR show car.
SECOND WAVE: The second part of the collection will have 500 1-of-1 NFTs that show off select cars Stewart drove, plus some imaginary new paint schemes. Orange Comet said that those who buy the second edition will have a 20% chance to win a 30-minute Zoom call with Stewart, and that those who purchase more than one NFT will be sent an autographed hat. These physical prizes show how NFT companies are trying to mix in real-world utility along with buying a digital collectible to make the offer more appealing. Orange Comet, whose co-founders include Kurt Warner and Gloria and Emilio Estefan, also works with the NHL’s Islanders and Kraken.
