Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a tech wiz to get in on the NFT game. This summer, Old Navy is doing for cryptocurrency what it has done for fashion — making it widely accessible and affordable.
Today the brand launched its first-ever NFT collection, inspired by its iconic flag tees. The collectible digital artwork features Old Navy’s mascot – Magic the Dog – decked out in the classic flag tee design. Not only does the NFT collection commemorate the Fourth of July, but it is also a tribute to Old Navy’s founding year of 1994. That means a total of 1,994 totally unique NFTs of Magic the Dog are available for purchase at www.oldnavy.com/nft. As of the launch at 12 p.m., over 1,200 NFTs have been sold.
In keeping with Old Navy’s devotion to serving the masses, almost all of the collectibles cost just $0.94. That’s right — you can get your own Magic the Dog NFT for less than a dollar. A single one-of-a-kind option featuring exclusive artwork will also be auctioned off.
To create the NFTs, Old Navy collaborated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The retailer asked the kids involved with Boys & Girls Club how they might envision a modern day version of Magic. The resulting digital artwork shows Magic with cute hand-drawn traits like a pink mohawk or shiny red headphones. One NFT even portrays Magic eating Hot Cheetos, no doubt a favorite snack of a young Boys & Girls Club participant.
New to the metaverse? Old Navy has got you covered. Heather Parady, host of podcasts NFTsforNewbies and Community Builder in Web3, helps to explain the world of NFTs to beginners through her Instagram Reels. One of the goals of the partnership is to close the gender gap in the digital collectibles world, where NFT collectors are three times more likely to be men. In collaborating with Parady, the brand is helping introduce the technology to Old Navy’s predominantly female customer base.
Old Navy’s NFT collection is available for purchase via credit card on the Tezos blockchain, and 100% of proceeds will go to supporting youth art programs through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. And if you do buy a Magic the Dog NFT, don’t forget to redeem the free flag tee that is unlocked with each Old Navy digital collectible purchase.
