Rawlings, the iconic sporting goods manufacturer is entering the world of web3 with the Rawlings PRIMUS NFT collection. An incredibly unique NFT project, PRIMUS NFT has a small supply of only 461 pieces. Not only this, but this noteworthy project mixes the physical and digital, bringing a physical item to each NFT asset.
On September 14th, Rawlings launched the PRIMUS NFT collection to supporters and fans of their sporting goods company. They worked with an agency, Dream Syndicate, in order to launch their physical and digital (phygital) offering.
This digital venture is the first of its kind for the long-established baseball and softball brand, and aims to bridge the gap between the physical and digital collectible worlds. Therefore, the collection has a strong focus on not only the beautiful artwork, but also the limited-edition nature of the NFT drop, and the incredible physical pairings.
The PRIMUS collection of 461 pieces has four tiers: Pro (300 NFTs), Gold (150 NFTs), Platinum (10 NFTs). Each NFT comes with the option to own a physical glove which was designed specifically for this NFT venture. There is also a 1-of-1 glove designed by Francisco Lindor. This 1-of-1 glove was actually worn by Francisco Lindor during an MLB game between the Mets and Yankees on July 27th – so the lucky owner gets to own a piece of sporting history.
It is rare to see such a small NFT drop, however, Rawlings has created their collection in this way to maintain the value of the digital assets. In fact, Rawlings has put in place an exciting method of ensuring rarity. In order to collect your physical glove, you must burn your NFT. This increases the rarity of the digital collectibles. Furthermore, any unclaimed physical gloves will be destroyed, in order to increase the value of the gloves.
In addition to the physical glove aspect of the digital asset, there are also many other perks available. This includes automatic allow list spots on future projects, and early access to future products. Additionally, holders have access to exclusive merchandise, and tier-related ticketed event giveaways. Finally, holders can receive access to unreleased product samples for testing and reviews.
The owner of the 1-of-1 Lindor glove will have some incredible additional utility. The winning bid will receive the signed game-worn glove and the NFT. Not only this, but also two tickets to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award Ceremony in NYC (including hotel, and airfare). Proceeds are going to the Lindor Scholarship Fund. The auction for the Lindor glove began on September 28th.
Speaking on this unique collection, Dylan Kavanagh, VP of Marketing at Rawlings, said:
“The Rawlings brand is always looking to evolve, and after 135 years, we are excited to be entering a new digital realm creating NFTs tied to physical gloves, resulting in a one-of-a-kind experience for NFT holders. We’re building a digital community, full of value. There’s something for everyone in the PRIMUS Collection from digital assets to tangible goods, and the Web3 space allows us to reward our fans and NFT holders with ongoing value and community perks.”
Currently, there are still some NFTs to purchase through their website (which takes purchasers to OpenSea) for the mint price of 0.3 ETH for the Pro tier, 0.46 for the Gold tier, 0.91 for the Premium tier, or the minimum auction bid of 3.45 ETH for the 1-of-1.
