$600M Bullish Bets Liquidated as Bitcoin Drops to $115K, DOGE, SOL, XRP Fall 6%

Crypto markets experienced significant volatility, with over $630 million in leveraged positions liquidated. Long positions accounted for the majority ($580 million) of liquidations, triggered by a sudden sell-off. Bitcoin (BTC) fell to $115,200, but remained relatively stable compared to altcoins, whose dominance decreased as a result. Ether (ETH) dropped to $3,687, XRP to below $3, Solana (SOL) to $170, and BNB to $780, retracting from a recent high above $855.

Coinglass data highlighted a $13.7 million ETH long liquidation on Binance as the largest single event. These liquidations, resulting from leveraged positions failing to meet maintenance requirements, amplified price volatility. The high volume of liquidations, particularly concentrated on long positions, suggests overextended market positioning. This often precedes market corrections or reversals.

Real-time tracking of liquidations and funding rates helps traders gauge market sentiment, identify forced selling/buying pressure, and time trades. Speculative altcoins were heavily impacted, with Solana-based tokens like Fartcoin (FART), Pump.fun (PUMP), and Jupiter (JUP) experiencing sharp corrections.

Bitget’s Chief Analyst, Ryan Lee, attributed these altcoin corrections to profit-taking and waning momentum, rather than a systemic market shift. FART fell 14% to retest its 100-day EMA near $1, JUP lost support at its 200-day EMA, and PUMP continued its decline within a descending channel. Lee highlighted Bitcoin’s relative strength, bolstered by ETF inflows and macroeconomic stability, as indicating an isolated, not broad-based, pullback.

Bitcoin’s price remaining above $115,000 is crucial for maintaining the overall market structure. A break below this level could signal a more significant correction. The event underscores the risks associated with leveraged trading in volatile crypto markets. Traders should closely monitor market conditions and manage their risk accordingly.
