King Dollar Falls, Bitcoin Marches Toward Sound Money Highs

Bitcoin’s recent surge past $111,800 marks a significant milestone, representing a remarkable 50% increase from its April low of approximately $75,000. This substantial gain, however, presents a nuanced picture when considering Bitcoin’s performance relative to traditional stores of value like gold and silver.

While Bitcoin’s price in US dollars has reached new heights, its dominance against precious metals remains incomplete. The current Bitcoin-to-gold ratio stands at 33.27 ounces, falling short of its January peak exceeding 40 ounces. Similarly, Bitcoin’s all-time high against silver has yet to be achieved, although it recently surpassed the 3,300-ounce level, compared to a record high of 3,530 ounces.

The “digital gold” moniker, often applied to Bitcoin due to its fixed supply and decentralized nature, is increasingly validated by its recent performance. Bitcoin’s recent gains significantly outperform the sluggish performance of U.S. equities this year, despite a recovery from the April downturn triggered by tariff concerns.

Bitcoin’s price is also nearing psychological milestones in other fiat currencies. It currently trades around 82,500 British pounds, approaching its all-time high of 88,300 pounds, and at 91,500 Swiss francs, nearing its previous peak of almost 100,000 francs. These figures suggest that further breakthroughs are imminent as Bitcoin’s momentum continues.

Significantly, Bitcoin has already established all-time highs relative to major financial instruments such as the Nasdaq 100 and the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT). Its sustained outperformance of both bonds and tech stocks highlights a broader market trend favoring Bitcoin.

The primary challenge remaining for Bitcoin is surpassing its benchmarks against precious metals. Overcoming gold and silver’s established monetary dominance would represent a complete reversal in the hierarchy of value, solidifying Bitcoin’s position as a dominant asset. The current data suggests this is a highly achievable goal.
