Bitcoin, Dogecoin, XRP Rise as Bessent Hints at Trade Deals Before Liberation Day Tariff Deadline

Crypto markets experienced a surge Sunday morning, fueled by positive signals from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding upcoming trade deals. Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana’s SOL, and Dogecoin all saw significant gains, exceeding 1% in most cases. This upward trend follows Bessent’s comments on CNN, where he indicated that the U.S. is nearing the completion of several trade agreements before the July 9th Liberation Day tariff deadline.

Bessent clarified that while July 9th remains the official deadline for negotiations, President Trump intends to send letters to trading partners, warning of a return to higher tariff levels starting August 1st if agreements aren’t finalized. This “boomerang” effect, as Bessent described it, is designed to incentivize quicker negotiations. He highlighted that some countries were showing reluctance to reach deals, prompting the firm deadline and the potential for increased tariffs.

The current situation is a direct consequence of President Trump’s policy of imposing tariffs on imported goods, aimed at boosting the U.S. economy and reducing the trade deficit. Initially announced on April 2nd, these tariffs, ranging from 10% to 50% depending on the country, triggered a significant sell-off in financial markets, including a sharp drop in Bitcoin’s value to $75,000. This market reaction prompted a 90-day pause, allowing time for negotiations.

Since then, however, a resurgence in confidence, termed “U.S. exceptionalism,” has been observed, with major U.S. equity indices hitting record highs. Bitcoin has also benefited from this renewed optimism, trading above $100,000. Bessent’s statements regarding the impending trade deal finalizations further strengthened this positive sentiment, contributing to the observed increase in cryptocurrency prices. The crypto market will now be closely watching the progress of these trade negotiations and the outcome of the July 9th deadline.
