Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP ETFs See Record AUM as Traders Warn of ‘Summer Lull’
Bitcoin’s resilience amidst global uncertainty is a key market theme. Despite renewed trade tensions fueled by Donald Trump’s proposed tariff hikes, Bitcoin remains relatively stable near $108,700. This contrasts sharply with the negative reaction in traditional markets, where Asian equities fell for the third time in four sessions, copper futures declined, and U.S. equity futures turned red. The muted response from Bitcoin suggests investors either view the macroeconomic headwinds as inconsequential or perceive Bitcoin as increasingly isolated from global policy risks.
Han Xu of HashKey Capital expresses optimism, highlighting Bitcoin’s resilience and long-term investor confidence. However, FxPro’s Alex Kuptsikevich notes hesitation at current price levels, with buyers quickly relinquishing gains and sellers remaining active near the $110,000 mark. While the 50-day moving average attracts dip buyers, the overall market capitalization, though up 1.8% weekly, slipped 0.6% in 24 hours to $3.35 trillion, indicating indecision.
Despite this choppiness, crypto ETF inflows remain robust. CoinShares reports a 12th consecutive week of net inflows, totaling nearly $1 billion, with over $790 million allocated to Bitcoin. Ether, Solana, and XRP also saw significant inflows. Total ETF assets under management hit a record $188 billion.
However, underlying data reveals potential fatigue. On-chain activity and implied volatility have fallen to near two-year lows, according to The Block, reflecting a “summer lull” characterized by declining trading volumes and increased unrealized gains among long-term holders. This concentration of unrealized gains could trigger a sharper price movement if sentiment shifts.
While the market maintains a risk-on attitude, a cautious tone prevails. Capital’s movement away from the 200-day moving average suggests a bullish bias; however, any shift in sentiment could rapidly lead to profit-taking. The situation highlights the interplay of Bitcoin’s resilience against global uncertainty and the underlying market dynamics suggesting both strength and potential vulnerability.
