Tether Leads €30M Investment Round in Spanish Crypto Exchange Bit2Me

Tether, a prominent stablecoin issuer, has strategically invested €30 million (approximately $35 million) in Bit2Me, a Spanish cryptocurrency exchange. This investment, representing a minority stake, signifies Tether’s commitment to supporting Bit2Me’s expansion within Europe and Latin America. The funding round was led by Tether Ventures, Tether’s El Salvador-based venture capital arm, which actively deploys company profits and reserves into diverse technological and strategic projects.

This investment highlights Bit2Me’s recent achievement as the first Spanish-speaking fintech company to secure authorization from Spain’s securities regulator under the EU’s innovative Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This regulatory approval paves the way for Bit2Me to operate seamlessly across the entire European Union, a significant market for cryptocurrency services.

Tether Ventures’ investment portfolio is remarkably diverse, encompassing a range of industries. Notable investments include Juventus, a renowned Italian football club; Adecoagro, a major Latin American agricultural producer; Crystal Intelligence, a specialized blockchain forensics firm; Rumble, a video-sharing platform rivaling YouTube; and Elemental Altus, a gold-focused investment firm. This diversification strategy underscores Tether’s broad investment approach and commitment to diverse technological advancements.

Bit2Me intends to leverage this substantial investment to bolster its presence in Latin America, particularly in Argentina. Argentina’s burgeoning demand for cryptocurrency services and the recent acquisition of a Virtual Asset Service Provider license in the country make it a strategically important market for Bit2Me’s expansion.

The partnership between Tether and Bit2Me underscores a growing trend of collaboration between established financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges. Bit2Me already boasts a strong foundation of support from prominent Spanish institutions, including major telecommunications company Telefónica and banking giants such as Unicaja, BBVA, and Cecabank. While the precise size of Tether’s stake and Bit2Me’s updated valuation remain undisclosed, the investment clearly signals significant confidence in Bit2Me’s future growth and potential. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino expressed enthusiasm about supporting Bit2Me’s role in fostering regulated cryptocurrency services across Europe and beyond.
