Sui Jumps 4% as Swiss Banks Expand Regulated Access for Institutional Clients
Sui (SUI), the native token of the Sui blockchain, experienced a 4% price surge in the past 24 hours, reaching $3.82. This increase follows announcements from two Swiss financial institutions, Sygnum and Amina Bank, expanding their services to include SUI custody, trading, and lending. Sygnum, a digital asset bank, now offers these services to its institutional clients, allowing regulated investors in Switzerland to hold, trade, and utilize SUI as collateral. Amina Bank claims to be the first globally regulated bank to support SUI trading and custody.
These developments significantly impacted market activity. CoinDesk Analytics data reveals a substantial increase in trading volume, exceeding 36.45 million tokens—more than double the daily average of 14.31 million. This surge suggests a strong buying pressure, particularly around a key support level between $3.72 and $3.74, which has held since mid-July. This indicates short-term traders view this range as a price floor.
SUI’s price increase aligns with the broader cryptocurrency market, reflected in the CoinDesk 20 Index (CD20)’s 4.5% rise. While SUI shows positive monthly performance (7% growth over 30 days), it lags behind the CD20’s 24% increase.
The expansion of regulated access to SUI by Swiss banks holds significant implications beyond mere trading opportunities. It signals growing confidence among financial institutions in integrating newer blockchain networks, expanding beyond established cryptocurrencies. This development broadens diversification options for asset managers, corporate treasuries, and high-net-worth individuals within regulated frameworks.
Sui’s technology, developed by Mysten Labs, focuses on high-speed, low-cost transactions utilizing a novel “objects” data structure to enhance scalability. Increased accessibility through banks like Sygnum and Amina could attract developers and real-world applications. Continued growth in demand for bank-mediated blockchain exposure could solidify Sui’s position, attracting not only speculative traders but also enterprise adoption.
