A Startup Raises $15M, Led by Paradigm, Aiming to Rival HyperLiquid
GTE, a decentralized trading venue, has secured $15 million in Series A funding, led by Paradigm. This announcement, made on X, positions GTE as a competitor to leading decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like HyperLiquid, Uniswap, and PancakeSwap. GTE’s stated goal is to become the “world’s fastest decentralized exchange,” a claim often associated with HyperLiquid.
The funding round underscores GTE’s significant growth within the current crypto cycle. DefiLlama data reveals that GTE has already surpassed $1 trillion in cumulative trading volume in 2025, demonstrating its rapid ascent in the market. While speed is a primary focus, directly challenging HyperLiquid’s dominance, GTE also aims to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of spot trading, currently offered by platforms like Uniswap and PancakeSwap.
A key differentiator for GTE is its use of a central limit order book (CLOB) to match buyers and sellers. This contrasts with the automated market maker (AMM) engine and liquidity pools employed by Uniswap. GTE co-founder Enzo Coglitore, in an interview with The Block, expressed confidence in achieving latency comparable to centralized exchanges like Binance and Coinbase. This addresses a long-standing challenge for trading firms operating in crypto markets, where latency issues have significantly impacted performance. Even prominent exchanges like FTX, known for its trader-centric approach, struggled with high latency and API-related problems.
GTE’s non-custodial nature is a critical aspect of its design. Unlike centralized exchanges, GTE does not hold user assets, mitigating the risks associated with custodial models and preventing potential implosions akin to the FTX collapse. This commitment to security and user control positions GTE as a compelling alternative within the evolving landscape of decentralized finance (DeFi). The success of GTE will depend on its ability to deliver on its promise of speed, efficiency, and security within the competitive DeFi ecosystem.
