Agri-Tech Firm Dimitra Partners With MANTRA to Bring Cacao, Carbon Credits onto the Blockchain
Dimitra, a blockchain agricultural technology firm, has partnered with Layer 1 blockchain platform MANTRA to bring real-world agricultural assets onto MANTRA’s blockchain. This collaboration aims to tokenize over $1 billion in agricultural assets, starting with cacao in Brazil and carbon credits in Mexico. While the initial pilot projects are small-scale (25 of 374 cocoa farmers in Roraima, Brazil, are currently participating), they offer the potential for significant expansion based on investor interest.
The partnership allows MANTRA token holders to directly invest in smallholder farmers, funding regenerative agricultural projects with enhanced traceability and verifiability through blockchain technology. Projected annual returns for investors are estimated at 10-30%, though Dimitra acknowledges inherent agricultural risks like pests and drought that could impact yields. This projection is based on preliminary modeling.
Integration of the pilot programs with MANTRA is ongoing, with investment opportunities for OM token holders expected within the next few months. The partnership proceeded despite MANTRA’s April flash crash, which saw its OM token plummet 90%. Dimitra’s CEO, Jon Trask, confirmed that the deal predated the crash, but a reassessment ensured the long-term viability of the collaboration. The decision to move forward was based on MANTRA’s strong team, sound RWA development strategy, and its VARA-granted VASP license.
MANTRA’s experience in RWA tokenization, including a $500 million UAE real estate project, supports the Dimitra partnership. MANTRA CEO John Patrick Mullin highlights the initiative’s significance in addressing food supply challenges and promoting long-term impact. The partnership leverages blockchain technology to enhance transparency and traceability, aligning with MANTRA Chain’s design to support such projects. The initiative aims to provide solutions to real-world issues within the agricultural sector, offering investors a chance to participate in sustainable and impactful projects.
