American Bitcoin, Backed by Eric and Donald Trump Jr, Pulls In $220M to Accumulate BTC
American Bitcoin Corp, a Miami-based Bitcoin mining company, has successfully concluded a $220 million funding round from accredited investors. This surpasses its initial target of $200 million, with approximately $10 million of the total raised in Bitcoin (BTC) itself. After fees, the company netted roughly $215 million. The funding round involved the issuance of 11,002,954 Class A shares.
The company, majority-owned by Hut 8 (HUT) and notably backed by the Trump family, will allocate the newly acquired capital towards two key strategic initiatives. Firstly, it will significantly increase its Bitcoin treasury holdings, bolstering its overall financial position and potentially creating further revenue streams through future sales. Secondly, the funds will finance substantial upgrades to its existing fleet of Bitcoin mining machines. These upgrades are expected to enhance the company’s overall mining efficiency, leading to increased Bitcoin production and profitability.
The Trump family’s involvement stems from the merger of American Data Center, previously owned by Eric and Donald Trump Jr., with American Bitcoin Corp. Current ownership structure reportedly shows Hut 8 holding an 80% stake, while the Trump brothers retain a 20% share. This significant investment underscores the Trump family’s continued interest in the cryptocurrency sector and its belief in the long-term growth potential of Bitcoin mining.
American Bitcoin Corp is actively pursuing a public listing, aiming to achieve this through a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining (GRYP). This move is intended to enhance the company’s visibility, liquidity, and access to wider capital markets. The success of the funding round and the pending merger represent significant milestones for the firm.
The impact of this funding round on Hut 8’s stock price is currently showing a slight decrease, with pre-market trading indicating a 0.86% decline to $18.44 per share. However, the long-term implications of this substantial capital infusion and the anticipated public listing remain positive, potentially benefiting both American Bitcoin Corp and its major shareholder, Hut 8. The success of the fundraising round, coupled with its strategic plans, positions American Bitcoin Corp for significant growth within the competitive Bitcoin mining industry.
