Archax to Acquire Deutsche Digital Assets, Expanding Crypto ETP Reach in Europe

Archax, a UK-based digital asset exchange, is significantly expanding its European presence through the acquisition of Deutsche Digital Assets (DDA), a regulated German crypto asset manager. This strategic move unites two leading firms in the European financial technology sector, bolstering Archax’s reach across the continent’s two largest markets: the UK and Germany.

DDA, managing approximately $70 million in assets, specializes in crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs). Its established distribution network, encompassing European banks and asset managers, provides Archax immediate access to a mature market for these products. The acquisition is particularly timely given the increasing global demand for regulated digital instruments, a trend amplified by current geopolitical uncertainty.

Crucially, the deal grants Archax valuable BaFin licenses in Germany. These licenses encompass portfolio management and investment advisory, capabilities vital for servicing institutional clients within the EU. This acquisition complements Archax’s 2023 purchase of Spanish broker KSCM, creating a robust regulatory foundation across key European markets. Archax now boasts regulatory approvals in the UK, Germany, Spain, and France, effectively enabling operations across much of Europe’s complex digital asset landscape.

Germany’s established crypto ETP market offers a distinct advantage for Archax. While the UK recently introduced crypto ETPs for professional investors, Germany provides a head start, with an existing infrastructure and client base already familiar with these products. This acquisition not only provides access to this market but also the necessary licenses to issue and distribute ETPs.

Archax’s business model extends beyond cryptocurrencies. The company also offers tokenized real-world assets, such as private equity and real estate, positioning it as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain technology. This diversified approach further strengthens its competitive position within the evolving digital asset landscape.

According to Archax CEO Graham Rodford, this acquisition establishes the firm as one of Europe’s most comprehensively licensed digital asset companies. Maximilian Lautenschläger, managing partner at DDA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the synergistic nature of the merger and the broadened market opportunities it presents for both organizations. The combined entity is well-positioned to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for secure and regulated digital assets within the European Union.
