Asia Morning Briefing: BTC Mining Industry Not Worried About New Round of Trump Tariffs

Asia Morning Briefing: Market Highlights

Global markets displayed resilience amidst new US tariffs on semiconductors. While the White House imposed 100% tariffs, major chip manufacturers TSMC and Samsung secured exemptions due to their substantial US investments. This safeguards Bitcoin mining equipment production, as these companies supply Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) to miners like Bitmain, Canaan, and Bitdeer. Bitdeer confirmed their partnership with TSMC and plans for a US assembly factory within a year. Market reactions were largely positive; Taiwan’s TAIEX index opened 2.3% higher, with TSMC up 3% nearing record highs. Even SMIC, a Shanghai-based competitor, saw gains in Hong Kong.

Cryptocurrency Market Movers:

Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a bullish cooldown after reaching a record high of $123,000, currently trading at $117,386. CryptoQuant indicates softer momentum and potential short-term consolidation. A shift in short-term capital flow from Solana to Ether is observed, with ETH/SOL at a year-to-date low and ETH/BTC surpassing its 200-day EMA for the first time in two years. Open interest stands at $58 billion, and network activity is at record highs.
