ATOM Plunges 4% as Bearish Momentum Accelerates

The cryptocurrency ATOM experienced a significant downturn on July 30th, concluding the 24-hour trading session with a 3.7% decrease, settling at $4.43. This marked a considerable drop from its opening price of $4.60, driven by substantial selling pressure.

The most dramatic price movement occurred between 10:00 and 11:00 GMT. During this hour, ATOM plummeted from $4.48 to $4.39, accompanied by a surge in trading volume—nearly three times the daily average at 2.71 million units. This intense selling overwhelmed recent support levels, highlighting the dominance of bearish sentiment.

Trading in the final hour showed choppy consolidation between $4.405 and $4.438. A notable selloff at 13:23 GMT pushed the price to its session low, with 56,962 units traded. While a slight recovery brought the closing price to $4.427, the overall trend remained bearish. Resistance sits firmly at $4.438, while support levels near $4.405 have repeatedly failed to hold.

Interestingly, this negative price action occurred despite positive developments within the Cosmos ecosystem. The network recently surpassed 100 live chains, and progress continues on XRP integration through the Cosmos SDK and IBC. However, market participants seemingly prioritized technical indicators over these fundamental positives.

Technical analysis points to a bearish outlook. Critical support is identified at $4.39, validated by high volume, with a secondary support level at $4.50. Resistance is strong between $4.62 and $4.65, based on early session highs. The accelerating downtrend suggests a potential further drop towards the $4.30-$4.35 target zone, should current support levels continue to break. Hourly charts show resistance at $4.44 and temporary support at $4.41. The prevailing trend indicates that the path of least resistance for ATOM remains downwards. The breakdown of multiple support levels underscores the persistent selling pressure and the lack of bullish momentum.
