Bitdeer Ramps Up Self-Mining Capacity, Ships 1.6 EH/s of SEALMINER A2s in May
Bitdeer, a Singapore-based Bitcoin mining firm, significantly expanded its operations and mining capacity in May, as detailed in its monthly update. The company achieved a notable 18% increase in Bitcoin mining output compared to April, yielding 196 BTC. This surge is directly attributable to the strategic deployment of its advanced SEALMINER A2 rigs across multiple international data centers.
These deployments spanned key locations in the U.S., Norway, and Bhutan, significantly boosting Bitdeer’s proprietary hashrate to 13.6 exahashes per second (EH/s). This increase stems from the activation of 3.9 EH/s worth of SEALMINER A1 machines and the ongoing integration of the A2 line. Furthermore, the company demonstrated the growing demand for its mining hardware by shipping 1.6 EH/s of SEALMINER A2 units to external clients.
Bitdeer’s infrastructure expansion is progressing rapidly. In Norway, 70 megawatts (MW) of a planned 175 MW expansion at its Tydal facility are already operational, with the remaining 105 MW slated for completion by June’s end. Simultaneously, the Jigmeling site in Bhutan has commenced energization, aiming to add 368 MW to its existing capacity, resulting in a total of 500 MW. A substantial 221 MW facility in Massillon, Ohio, is also on schedule for phased completion throughout the second half of the year.
The company’s global reach is expanding into new markets. Bitdeer is actively preparing a 50 MW facility in Ethiopia in collaboration with a local partner and has secured a fully licensed property in Alberta, Canada, where it plans to construct a natural gas power plant dedicated to supporting its mining operations.
A significant financial boost was received in May through the exercise of warrants from a previous financing round by Tether. This injection provided Bitdeer with $50 million in cash in exchange for over 5 million shares. The company remains confident in its trajectory, projecting its self-mining capacity to reach 40 EH/s by October. This expansion underlines Bitdeer’s ambitious growth strategy and its commitment to becoming a leading player in the global Bitcoin mining landscape.
