Bolt Embraces Stablecoin Payments for Global Marketplaces as Digital Dollar Race Heats Up
Bolt, a San Francisco-based checkout and payments platform, has integrated stablecoin payment support into its system. This enhancement, delivered through Bolt Connect, a new product focused on streamlining marketplace growth, aims to revolutionize cross-border commerce.
Bolt Connect automates merchant onboarding, compliance, and payouts, significantly reducing operational burdens for digital marketplaces. For merchants, accepting stablecoin payments translates to several key advantages: fewer banking intermediaries, faster settlement times, and lower transaction costs. This efficiency boost is expected to stimulate growth and reduce operational overhead.
Consumers also stand to gain from this innovation. Individuals without bank accounts or those making international purchases can utilize digital dollars for instant payments, bypassing foreign transaction fees and lengthy credit card processing times. This enhances financial inclusion and accessibility for a wider range of users.
The move underscores Bolt’s commitment to simplifying cross-border transactions. Ryan Breslow, Bolt’s Founder and CEO, emphasizes the platform’s goal of providing tools for marketplace expansion without the complexities often associated with scaling. Stablecoin support is a pivotal step toward achieving this objective, fostering faster, borderless payments for all network participants.
Bolt joins other major payment processors like Mastercard, Visa, and Stripe in embracing stablecoins. This rapidly expanding $260 billion asset class offers programmable transactions and significantly faster, cheaper cross-border payments compared to traditional banking systems. The recent passage of the GENIUS Act in the U.S. Senate, aimed at regulating the stablecoin sector, is anticipated to further accelerate stablecoin adoption.
This initiative follows Bolt’s launch of its financial “SuperApp,” which allows users to manage cryptocurrencies, including stablecoins, within the app. This integrated approach consolidates various financial functionalities, providing a comprehensive and convenient user experience. The combination of the SuperApp and stablecoin payment support positions Bolt as a significant player in the evolving landscape of digital payments, emphasizing both its technological capabilities and commitment to expanding financial access globally.
