Cardano Drops 3% as Market Sell-Off Persists, Midnight Airdrop Sparks Volatility

Cardano (ADA) experienced a 3% decline in the past 24 hours, mirroring a broader cryptocurrency market downturn that began late last week. Trading at approximately $0.72, ADA showed significant intraday volatility, fluctuating 3.47% between a low of $0.734 and a high of $0.760, according to CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis. Increased trading volume initially propelled ADA from $0.745 to $0.760, but subsequent resistance led to a retreat to $0.735 (59.03 million volume). A rebound to $0.755 was short-lived, as further selling pressure pushed the price down to $0.739. This suggests persistent bearish pressure, with ADA struggling to maintain stability above the crucial $0.740 support level.

The broader cryptocurrency market, as reflected by the CoinDesk 20 Index, also experienced a decline of approximately 1.7%, slightly less than ADA’s drop. Bitcoin (BTC) showed a similar percentage decrease.

The recent airdrop of the NIGHT token by Midnight, a Cardano-based privacy-focused blockchain, added another layer to ADA’s market activity. Approximately 2.62 billion NIGHT tokens (11% of the total allocation) were distributed to XRP address holders through the Glacier Drop. Further distributions are planned for ETH, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT holders. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson highlighted significant interest from major financial institutions in the Midnight project, suggesting potential applications in anonymous cryptocurrency trading.

Meanwhile, Input Output Global (IOG), Cardano’s core development team, secured approval for a $71 million treasury proposal aimed at funding twelve months of network upgrades. This on-chain vote, however, sparked some community debate regarding transparency and the allocation of funds. The concerns raised by community members highlight the ongoing discussion surrounding responsible governance within the Cardano ecosystem. The overall market situation suggests a period of uncertainty for ADA, with its price action closely tied to broader market trends and the ongoing development and governance within the Cardano network.
