Coinbase’s Base App Rebrand Sends a Little-Known Token Soaring 440% Amid SocialFi Boom
Coinbase’s rebranding of its Wallet to the Base App has unexpectedly ignited a surge in SocialFi activity, significantly boosting Zora (ZORA) and its token’s value. This surge is directly attributable to the Base App’s integration with Zora, a platform enabling users to mint tradable tokens linked to their social media posts.
The Base App, launched on July 16th, features streamlined posting, chatting, and one-tap token minting, all seamlessly integrated with Zora and Farcaster. This user-friendly design has dramatically increased Zora’s engagement metrics. Data from Dune Analytics reveals a striking increase in daily Zora token creations, soaring from approximately 4,000 to over 15,000, reaching a peak of 38,000 on July 24th.
This surge in token creation directly correlates with a massive increase in trading activity. Daily trades skyrocketed from 30,000 to over 150,000, with daily trading volume exceeding $6 million – a significant jump from the pre-launch volume of approximately $1 million. This substantial increase in activity directly impacted ZORA’s price, resulting in a remarkable 440% rise within a week, climbing from $0.011 to $0.0615.
Consequently, ZORA’s market capitalization experienced a dramatic increase, soaring from just under $50 million to over $200 million in a single week, according to CoinMarketCap data. This growth wasn’t limited to the token’s value; creator earnings also saw a significant boost. Dune Analytics reports a sharp increase in daily creator payouts, rising from approximately $1,000 to over $30,000. This increase coincides with a substantial influx of new creators, with over 12,000 joining the platform during this period. The heightened activity is further underscored by the daily active users of Zora Smart Wallets, which exceeded 8,000 during the peak of this surge. The Coinbase Base App rebrand, therefore, has demonstrably catalyzed significant growth within the SocialFi ecosystem, highlighting the potential for such integrations to drive both platform engagement and token value.
