Cronos Jumps 18% After Trump Media ETF Proposal Lists Token Among Holdings

Cronos (CRO), the native token of the Crypto.com blockchain, experienced a significant price surge of nearly 18%, reaching $0.095 on Wednesday. This rally followed the announcement of its potential inclusion in a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) backed by Trump Media & Technology Group. This proposed ETF, currently awaiting approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will track a basket of five cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, and Cronos (CRO).

The ETF’s composition allocates 5% to CRO, making it the smallest component but still a noteworthy inclusion for a token historically underrepresented in major institutional products. This news propelled CRO’s price from approximately $0.08 on Tuesday morning, significantly outperforming the broader cryptocurrency market. In contrast, the CoinDesk 20 Index, a benchmark tracking leading digital assets, saw a more modest 2.8% increase during the same period.

Despite this substantial increase, CRO’s current price remains significantly below its all-time high of $0.69, reached in November 2021 during the previous bull market. A brief resurgence to $0.21 occurred in December 2024, coinciding with a market rally following Donald Trump’s re-election. However, this rally proved short-lived.

The proposed ETF has reignited interest in CRO, which underpins Crypto.com’s ecosystem, encompassing its exchange and payments application. The token’s journey back to its previous highs will be considerable. The market’s positive reaction suggests anticipation of increased institutional investment, contingent upon SEC approval of the ETF. Until the SEC grants its approval, the price increase remains speculative. This situation highlights the inherent volatility and dependence on regulatory decisions within the cryptocurrency market. The potential for increased institutional adoption, however, offers a significant catalyst for future price appreciation.
