Crypto Traders Shrug Off Dormant Bitcoin Whale Moves, With Profit-Taking on XRP, DOGE, SOL

Bitcoin’s price surge defied several potential market headwinds, closing at a record high of nearly $110,000 on Sunday. This remarkable feat occurred despite significant movements of $8 billion in Bitcoin from dormant whale wallets, ongoing trade tariff uncertainty, and reduced trading volume due to the holiday period. By Tuesday, the price consolidated slightly below $108,000 following a minor Monday sell-off.

This price action wasn’t mirrored across all major cryptocurrencies. Profit-taking led to declines in several assets; Solana (SOL) decreased by 2.3% to $149, while Dogecoin (DOGE) experienced a more significant 4.1% drop. Ether (ETH) traded near $2,530, and XRP remained relatively stable around $2.26.

The broader market showed signs of resilience. Asian equities avoided a major sell-off after President Trump indicated a willingness to restart trade negotiations, delaying new tariffs until at least August 1st. The MSCI Asia-Pacific index traded flat despite new levies imposed on Korea and Japan. A softening yen and strengthening won, along with reports of a potential EU deal, boosted investor risk appetite.

Augustine Fan, Head of Insights at SignalPlus, characterized the market as “hovering around record highs.” He noted that the upcoming earnings season will be pivotal, with investor sentiment heavily dependent on positive guidance from CEOs, particularly after last quarter’s surprise tariff announcements. The strong correlation between crypto and equity markets remains, with Bitcoin’s correlation to the S&P 500 near recent highs. Fan anticipates a relatively quiet summer unless volatility increases, though he acknowledges the potential for unexpected breakouts.

Conversely, some analysts are predicting further price increases. Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget Research, forecasts Bitcoin breaking its previous high and potentially reaching $120,000 by the end of July, citing institutional demand and ETF inflows. He also anticipates Ethereum testing $3,000, driven by whale accumulation and positive sentiment under the current U.S. administration. The expected Federal Reserve rate cut in September could provide additional upward momentum. The overall sentiment suggests a continued bullish outlook for Bitcoin, with some analysts even predicting prices could reach $130,000.
