Function Raises $10M to Bring Yield to Bitcoin; Gets Backing From Galaxy Digital, Antalpha, and Mantle

Function, a crypto infrastructure firm formerly known as Ignition, has secured $10 million in seed funding, led by Galaxy Digital (GLXY), with participation from Antalpha (ANTA) and Mantle. This investment positions Function at the forefront of a burgeoning trend: unlocking institutional yield opportunities within the Bitcoin (BTC) ecosystem.

Bitcoin, despite its dominance, remains underutilized in decentralized finance (DeFi). Function aims to change this with its flagship product, FBTC – a fully reserved and composable bitcoin representation. FBTC boasts an impressive $1.5 billion in total value locked (TVL), highlighting its early success. The platform is designed as a bridge, enabling institutions and corporate treasuries to leverage Bitcoin for yield generation while maintaining complete custodial control and a 1:1 asset backing.

This funding round comes at a pivotal moment, as institutional Bitcoin adoption expands beyond its traditional role as a store of value. The focus is shifting towards actively generating yield from Bitcoin holdings. Function’s strategy is to provide the necessary institutional-grade infrastructure to facilitate this transition. The firm envisions a future where actively earning yield on Bitcoin becomes the standard, rather than holding it passively.

Galaxy Digital’s involvement extends beyond financial investment. As a core contributor, Galaxy will provide crucial support in several key areas: liquidity provisioning, governance and risk framework design, and strategic oversight. This partnership provides Function with significant resources and expertise to scale FBTC’s institutional reach. Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy Digital brings considerable weight and credibility to the project.

Function’s CEO, Thomas Chen, predicts a significant shift in how Bitcoin is managed by institutional investors. He foresees a competitive landscape where firms that actively generate yield from their Bitcoin holdings will outperform those that maintain a passive approach. Function’s platform, by offering programmable and institutional-grade infrastructure, is positioned to lead this transformation, enabling sophisticated allocators to maximize the potential of their Bitcoin investments. This marks a critical step toward making Bitcoin a truly productive asset class for institutional investors.
