Helium Plus Lets Businesses Join Solana DePIN Project With Just Wi-Fi
Helium, a prominent Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) project on the Solana blockchain, has unveiled Helium Plus, a service designed to simplify participation for businesses. This innovative service allows businesses and public Wi-Fi providers to contribute to the Helium Network using their existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, eliminating the need for additional hardware. This significantly lowers the barrier to entry, enabling a broader range of participants to contribute to a community-driven mobile infrastructure and earn HNT, the network’s native token.
DePINs leverage blockchain technology to incentivize individuals and organizations to build and maintain physical infrastructure. Helium’s focus is on decentralized wireless connectivity. Previously, participation required deploying specialized “Hotspot” devices, involving upfront costs and technical expertise. Helium Plus changes this dynamic by enabling the use of standard Wi-Fi routers, transforming any Wi-Fi-enabled location into a Helium access point. This streamlined approach reduces the financial and technical hurdles for potential contributors.
The core benefit of Helium Plus lies in its ease of implementation. Businesses can readily integrate their existing Wi-Fi networks into the Helium Network with minimal effort, reducing infrastructure costs while generating new revenue streams through HNT rewards. This accessibility is expected to significantly expand the network’s reach and improve overall wireless connectivity. The Helium Network’s decentralized nature shifts infrastructure ownership and operation away from centralized entities, distributing control and benefits among participants.
Helium’s Network General Manager, Mario Di Dio, highlighted the transformative potential of Helium Plus. In a press release, he emphasized the service’s ability to offer instant, low-cost wireless integration, ultimately creating new revenue opportunities and enhancing connectivity. The simplicity of the Helium Plus onboarding process is critical to maximizing the potential of this expansion, opening doors for wider adoption and a more robust, decentralized wireless network. This move underscores the potential of DePINs to revolutionize the telecom industry.
