ICP Drops 5% as Crypto Market Rotates, Resistance Holds

Internet Computer (ICP) experienced a 5.35% price correction in the 24 hours ending July 23rd, falling from $6.01 to $5.69. This downturn mirrored a broader altcoin market weakness, with ICP failing to overcome resistance at the $6.00–$6.10 range despite multiple attempts.

The most significant price drop occurred around 13:00 UTC on July 23rd. Within minutes, ICP plummeted from $5.97 to $5.62, fueled by a substantial surge in trading volume. This volume reached 2.58 million tokens, almost four times the 24-hour average, indicating significant institutional selling pressure, according to CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis.

This selloff wasn’t unique to ICP. Similar patterns emerged across other altcoins, including Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), and Cardano (ADA), attributed to profit-taking and ongoing regulatory developments. Analysts view this retracement as a natural adjustment following recent price rallies spurred by news related to President Donald Trump and increased focus on stablecoin legislation.

Despite positive catalysts for individual cryptocurrencies, many struggled to maintain upward momentum. Traders engaged in capital reallocation, focusing on defending key support levels.

Technically, ICP’s price action between July 22nd and 23rd showed high volatility. The intraday high reached $6.14, while the low hit $5.62, creating a significant $0.52 range (8.4% spread). The sharp decline to $5.62 at 13:00 UTC on July 23rd was marked by trading volume exceeding 100,000 tokens per minute – nearly four times the average. This confirmed resistance at the $6.00–$6.10 range and established crucial support at $5.62 after a concentrated sell-off. Subsequent attempts to regain $5.83 were met with continued selling pressure. The overall market behavior suggests a period of consolidation and readjustment following recent bullish trends.
