ICP Slips 5% as Key Support Levels Buckle Under Selling Pressure

Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) experienced a notable price decline, dropping 4.77% in the 24 hours ending July 30th, 2024. The price fell from $5.66 to $5.39, a movement attributed to intensified selling pressure exceeding buying activity. This price fluctuation occurred within a relatively narrow trading range of $0.33, representing 5.3% volatility.

The most significant price drop occurred during the early European morning and mid-afternoon of July 30th. The crucial support level of $5.55 was breached, accompanied by a substantial increase in trading volume, reaching 647,663 contracts—significantly higher than the daily average of 356,394 contracts. This surge in volume underscores the intensity of the selling pressure during this period.

While a brief stabilization around $5.38 was observed later in the day, any recovery momentum proved short-lived. Between 07:06 and 08:05 UTC on July 30th, the price further decreased by 0.92%, dropping from $5.44 to $5.39. Repeated testing of the $5.38 support level during the 07:40–07:55 UTC window indicated persistent bearish market sentiment in the short term.

This downturn contrasts with ongoing developments within the Internet Computer ecosystem. The DFINITY Foundation continues to advance the network, recently launching Internet Computer 2.0. This update introduces tools enabling the creation of applications using natural language prompts, eliminating the need for coding expertise. This initiative aims to improve usability and attract developers. However, these positive advancements haven’t yet translated into sustained positive price action for the ICP token.

Technical analysis reveals a clear bearish trend. The $5.38 level acted as support, repeatedly tested, while resistance formed at $5.44. A consolidation phase emerged within the $5.38 to $5.44 range, reflecting a period of price stagnation. The overall picture suggests a prevailing bearish sentiment despite the positive technological developments in the ICP ecosystem. The lack of immediate bullish response to the Internet Computer 2.0 launch highlights the complexities of the cryptocurrency market, where technological advancements don’t always directly correlate with short-term price appreciation.
