Jito Launches BAM to Reshape Solana’s Blockspace Economy

The Jito Foundation has unveiled the Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM), a novel system designed to revolutionize block production and transaction sequencing on the Solana blockchain. BAM prioritizes transparency and verifiability in transaction sequencing, while simultaneously fostering programmable innovation at the blockspace layer. This innovative approach aims to unlock lucrative revenue streams for developers and mitigate the negative impacts of Maximal Extractable Value (MEV).

BAM leverages Jito’s existing infrastructure, including its widely adopted validator client and the Jito Block Engine, to achieve its goals. A core element of BAM is its utilization of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). These TEEs function as secure enclaves, privately evaluating and ranking transaction bundles submitted by searchers without compromising sensitive data. This approach ensures the confidentiality of private strategies while enabling validators to verify the results, effectively balancing transparency and confidentiality.

BAM’s modular architecture comprises three key components: BAM Nodes, BAM Validators, and Plugins. BAM Nodes act as specialized schedulers, privately organizing transactions using secure hardware. BAM Validators, running the updated Jito-Solana software client, receive the ordered transactions from these nodes and execute them on-chain. Plugins provide a programmable interface for developers, traders, and applications to interact with the scheduler, allowing for customized transaction logic. This plugin functionality also introduces a new revenue model, enabling developers to monetize custom logic while allowing validators, node operators, and stakers to share in the generated value.

The upcoming mainnet launch of BAM, scheduled for the coming weeks, will initially involve a select group of validators, including prominent Solana ecosystem players such as Figment, Helius, SOL Strategies, and Triton One. This launch represents a significant step towards a more dynamic and composable blockspace economy on Solana. According to Jito Labs CEO Lucas Bruder, BAM opens up unprecedented possibilities for developers, providing increased control, novel value generation and sharing mechanisms, and laying the foundation for a more robust and interconnected blockspace ecosystem.
