LaLiga and Dapper Labs have launched ‘Golazos’, an official non-fungible token (NFT) platform for digital video collectibles based on iconic moments from Spanish soccer’s top flight.
The platform allows fans to buy and sell NFTs consisting of officially licensed footage involving LaLiga players and teams. The league has a separate NFT partnership with Sorare for fantasy sports.
The ‘Golazos’ concept is similar to Dapper Labs’ other ventures, including National Basketball Association (NBA) Top Shot and National Football League (NFL) All Day, with LaLiga hoping to emulate their success.
The NFTs will be based on classic highlights from the league since the 2005/06 season, including goals, saves and skills. Meanwhile, the key plays from each matchday of the current campaign will also be featured.
Each moment will be available in four tiers of rarity – common, uncommon, rare and legendary – and will include multiple camera angles, along with audio commentary and match statistics. A key differentiating factor is that LaLiga Golazos NFTs will be bilingual in English and Spanish, ensuring they have maximum worldwide appeal.
The platform will initially launch as a closed beta, with the first drop focussing on the league’s most notable rivalries, including El Clásico, taking place on 27th October. Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and Marc-André ter Stegen, Real Madrid’s Luka Modric and Atletico Madrid’s João Félix will serve as launch ambassadors.
“We are excited to partner with LaLiga to provide global football fans with a digital collectible experience that is designed to match their passion for the game,” said Jorge Urrutia del Pozo, general manager of LaLiga Golazos for Dapper Labs.
“LaLiga Golazos will enable fans to own a piece of LaLiga history and participate in a whole new kind of football community that recognises and rewards them for their fandom.”
AS well as the NBA and NFL, several other sports properties have launched digital video collectibles, including Major League Baseball (MLB) with Candy Digital, the National Hockey League (NHL) with Sweet, as well as the German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A soccer leagues with OneFootball.
